Bikes Against Bullies UK Complete their Grand Tour
The route took them from Land's End to John O'Groats using only A and B class roads. The initial route totalled about 900 miles, but due to detours and road closures, they ended up riding over 1100 miles. In total it took six days averaging about 185 miles a day with their longest day being over 200 miles. One of the detours took them up over the Spittal of the Glenshee Road to Braemar with inclines of 13%, and then onwards to the Cockbridge to Tomintoul Road with inclines of 20%, they only found out afterwards that this road is one of the top 10 steepest roads in the UK!
The trip shared their route with supporters so they could join them on their journey, including a couple from Anglesey who met the min Shrewsbury for the ride up to Warrington.
The bikers, who are used to 1000cc machines, thought the scooters performed brilliantly. "Not even the 20% inclines daunted them, they might have slowed down a tad but they didn't stop. We put those little machines through hell and we never experienced any problems, except a small fuel tank for the Milano (70-mile range max). To be fair though, they are not designed to be high mileage tourers so we can't expect them to be able to do 150 miles without a refill."
On finishing the 6-day trip, Adrian commented, "Completing the tour was very emotional, personally. Two weeks previously I was laid up in the hospital with a bad case of cellulitis and totally unable to walk the length of myself. The fact that I had managed to get from one end of the country to the other was amazing." Overall, the Grand Tour has risen over ã2000 towards BAB's programs.
Chris and Andrian were the first inductees into the Lexmoto Adventure club and were presented with their commemorative T-shirts at Motorcycle Live 2017.
